ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake Recycling Depot customers have contributed $915 to help Decker Lake Elementary School’s Grade 4/5 class travel to Barkerville, B.C., next spring. The Recycling Depot has added 10 per cent, for a total of $1007. The Recycling Depot will continue to accept donations for this bottles account until the spring.

Following that meeting, Chief Leween, also as vice-chair, made a presentation in Toronto at the annual Canadian Council for Public-Private Partnerships.

‘We scare hunger’ campaign a success in ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake

A group of Lakes District Secondary School students spent an evening going door to door to collect food items for the Lakes District Food Bank as part of their annual campaign called ’We scare hunger’ on Oct. 30, 2017. The students collected over 466 kg of food items and then dropped them off at the food bank.

Community members stopped by the Bulkley Valley Credit Union’s Lakes District branch on Oct. 26, 2017 to say good-bye to branch manager Sandy Doré, who’s retiring after eight years. Doré has been a huge part of the ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake community. (L-R) Nancy Meyer, from BVCU, Smithers branch presented Sandy with a going away present. Sandy has been themanager of BVCU for the last 8 years and the has been a big contributing factor to the community and will be missed.

Lakes District Food Bank holds grand opening

The Lakes District Food Bank held a ribbon-cutting event for its new location - 788 Centre Street - last week. The event was followed by the food bank’s regular distribution, which that day included barbecue and cake to celebrate the occasion. The building was recently donated to the food bank by the Village of ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake.
