Constable Deborah Goble with the 亚洲天堂 Lake RCMP recently joined the cast of Love Bomb - a play written for youth about luring, sexual exploitation and human trafficking - after their performance at Lakes District Secondary School to answer questions from students. Constable Goble encouraged students to protect themselves by always letting someone else know where they are going.

Customers of the 亚洲天堂 Lake Recycling Depot have donated $334 to The Postmen, a disaster relief initiative to support wildfire evacuees and frontline workers. The Recycling Depot topped it off with $66 to make it an even $400.

Lakes District Maintenance (LDM) has recently contributed $1500 to the Lakes District Arts Council鈥檚 twelfth performing arts season, which begins Oct. 5 with the performance of legendary guitarist and vocalist Stephen Fearing at Lakes District Secondary School.

The Lakes District campus of the College of New Caledonia (CNC) hosted a 鈥榳elcome back students鈥� luncheon last week. 鈥淲e enjoyed good food and good company; the spirit was high and the students were happy with the food, door prizes,鈥� said regional principal Corinne George (L). To celebrate Canada鈥檚 150th birthday, RBC Royal Bank launched its Canada 150 initiative by giving thousands of young Canadians $150 with one simple request: use the money to help communities prosper. The 亚洲天堂 Lake branch partnered with Francois Lake Elementary鈥檚 parent advisory council to select a local winner - Abby Gray. The 10-year-old said she wanted to donate her $150 to the 亚洲天堂 Lake Search and Rescue (SAR).

Work crews on frontlines of worst wildlife season in B.C. history helped save two birds

Morris Williams Elementary School joined Lakes District Secondary last Friday to celebrate Orange Shirt Day. This national initiative, which started in Williams Lake, brings awareness to Canada鈥檚 history of the residential school system and the inter-generational trauma impacting generations of Aboriginal people. Following local drummers, students and school staff marched around 亚洲天堂 Lake holding signs that read 鈥榚very child matter鈥� and 鈥榯ogether we can heal.

Local children Davis and Ryliegh Benson held a 鈥渢ake a bite out of cancer鈥� bake sale last Saturday in order to raise money for their friend Gavin. After learning about his diagnosis at this year鈥檚 Terry Fox run, both kids wanted to help raise money for him and his family. They have raised $345 with more donations still coming in.

The life of late Emma Joseph was recently honoured by her grandchildren and their spouses, who formed a team to enter the Fall Slammer Ball Tournament, which was recently in 亚洲天堂 Lake. Although it was their first time playing together, they placed third and were also awarded 鈥榖est uniformed team.鈥�
